STREET CLOSURE SCHEDULE AND TRAFFIC RECOMMENDATIONS STREET CLOSURE SCHEDULE AND TRAFFIC RECOMMENDATIONS

ST. LOUIS, MO—More than 16,000 people of all ages and athletic abilities are expected to participate in the 7TH Annual Spirit of Spirit of St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend® on April 14 and 15, 2007.  The safety of all runners, walkers, spectators and the general public will be a top priority with an estimated 4,500 participants on Saturday, April 14 in Forest Park and 11,500 athletes on Sunday, April 15.  Marathon officials together with the City of St. Louis , Clayton and University City Police Departments are announcing road closures and traffic recommendations to make the public aware of temporary traffic modifications over the weekend.

Businesses and places of worship have received notification of road closures so that customers and congregants can plan accordingly.

The following streets will be closed in Forest Park for the Spirit of St. Louis Marathon and Family Fitness Weekend®  on April 14, 2007:

Participants and spectators for the Children’s Fun Runs at 9:30 a.m. and Mature Mile at 10:00 a.m. are encouraged to park in the lot at the corner of Grand and Cricket Drive across from the Jones Visitors’ Center and next to the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.  

Parking will be available on surrounding streets in accordance with traffic laws.  Below is the schedule for nearby parking lots. Dwight Davis Tennis Center , open until 7:00 p.m. North Zoo Parking Lot , open all day Upper MUNY Parking lot, open all day.

To access the Zoo and Upper MUNY lots, use the Hampton Avenue entrance from Hwy 64/40 or the Lagoon Drive entrance from Skinker.  For those entering Forest Park between 7:00 a.m. ad 8:30 a.m., please use one of the following entrances, Lagoon Drive via Skinker, by the Missouri History Museum via Lindell or Hampton via Hwy 40/64.

Spirit of Saint Louis Marathon , Sunday, April 15, 2007 The following Hwy 40/64 exit ramps will be closed: 

Streets in the City of St. Louis on the marathon, half marathon and marathon relay courses will be closed to ALL vehicular traffic for the safety of participants.  Streets along the course will be re-opened according to a 16 minute mile pace.  After that time each mile section of the street will re-open.

The following streets in St Louis will have limited access:

These streets will be open only for police and emergency vehicles.  Parking will not be available. Kingshighway and Grand Blvd. will remain open throughout the race and will serve as major thoroughfares for north/south traffic.

Streets on the course in Clayton and University City will be open with limited access.  Runners on these streets will have the right of way.

PARKING GUIDELINES

Guidelines for Saturday, April 14, 2007 in Forest Park

RACE MORNING PARKING OPTIONS (April 14, 2007): To ensure participant safety, some of the roads will be closed for the events. Remember: All 6-8th grade students will be running in the 5k which begins at 7:30 am. All K-5th graders will be running the 1.2 mile run, which begins at 8:45 am. Carpooling is recommended and please arrive early. Here are some areas available for parking:

Guidelines for Sunday, April 15, 2007

There is a considerable amount of street parking near the START area (17th and Market) and the FINISH area (13th and Chestnut).  If you plan on using Union Station Parking Lot, please use the Clark and 18th entrance (exit 14th St. from highway I-64/40).  Access to the lot via 20th and Chestnut will NOT be available.  For additional parking, consider the 18th Street Garage on Chestnut. 

Additionally, to avoid the hassles of finding a parking spot on race day morning, consider using the MetroLink.  The closest station to the Start Line is Union Station, whereas the closest station to the Finish Line is the Civic Center station near Scottrade Center and City Hall.  One-way fares for adults are $2.00, and $1.00 for children under 12 and seniors.
