50 States Marathon Club

T

The 2007 Spirit of St. Louis Marathon will host the quarterly reunion for the 50 States Marathon Club! Members of the club have run a Marathon in at least 10 states with a goal of running a Marathon in all 50. There are approximately 1,300 members of the club, and more than 300 "50 Staters" will attend the reunion and run in the Marathon. We encourage you to visit their booth at the Marathon Expo to learn more about their organization and share personal stories.

Start Line Face-Lift

After listening to your concerns about crowded conditions along the course, especially through the Anheuser Busch Brewery, and consulting other Marathon Race Directors, we will narrow the 2007 Start Line to half the width of Market Street. This will control the number of runners entering the course at a given moment, allowing for more "elbow room" for participants throughout the entire race. Please be patient as it may take a few minutes after the "official start" to cross the line.

To assist you in selecting your "start position," there will be signs indicating approximate finish times (3:00 for the Marathon / 1:30 for the Half Marathon, etc.) in the Start Line Area. In addition, the Pace Teams will line up accordingly.

According to Runner's World...

"The top 10 mantras to make it through a workout:
10. Latte, latte, latte.
9. A fit mom is a healthy mom.
8. Never, ever quit.
7. Slow and steady.
6. Run, run, fly, fly.
5. Thin thighs! Thin thighs!
4. Quick feet.
3. Don't think, just run.
2. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
1. Early run, get it done."

However, St. Louis Marathon created our own Mantra: Run 'Til It's Done!

Commemorative Poster Contest

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University has signed on to enhance the Spirit of St. Louis Marathon Art & Sole experience. Students will design posters to be displayed at the Art & Sole reception scheduled for March 2007. One student's submission will be chosen as the official commemorative poster to be sold during the Marathon weekend.
